In the heart of Varanasi, where whispers converse,
Sit by the ghats, in stillness immerse.
Peace descends like a gentle embrace,
Harmony unites in the heart of solace,
As Ganga blesses with eternal trace,
Carrying ashes, dried flowers, sins of the race,
To the mighty sea, with alluring grace.
Witness the temples where devotions bloom,
In every corner, scattering gloom.
The clang of bells, prayers ascend,
Merging into skies, endlessly extend.
Witness the Ganga aarti, lightening up the sky,
Worshiping with fire, flowers, water and endless hopes to begin the spy.
Each ghat aglow with tapestry of gold,
Reflecting the divine life stories ‘untold’.
Take a boat ride, let the river guide,
Every soul alights, shining ghats aside.

Hear the chants, sacred and profound,
They rise and fall, a hypnotic sound.
Lose yourself to the harmony of drums,
Listen close to the Flute’s sonorous.
To truly feel Banaras’s beating heart,
Engage your senses, take every part.

Sip on chai, or a cold lassi’s delight,
Under the banyan, in the soft morning light.
Appraise the ‘Kachori*’ & ‘Tamatar chaat*’,
Aloo Tikki’* & ‘Chura mutter’*, a savoury plot.
Winter mornings glowing with ‘Mallaiyyo’s* soft delight,
Jalebi-Rabdi’* & ‘Thandai’* dance, timeless tempting sight.

Its streets, its sounds, its bustling pans,
End your journey gobbling the Banaras paan.
Don’t wait for death to bring you here,
Banaras welcomes every Rich & poor.
In this holy city, where life and death unite,
Come while alive, celebrate LIFE in sacred light.

Banaras Delicacies

kachori -> Indian flatbread recipe where pastry dough balls are stuffed with a pungent & spicy filling made of Asafetida or Hing and then flattened and deep-fried.

Tamatar chaat -> This is basically a mishmash of boiled potatoes, tomatoes, spices and topped with chopped onions, green chilies & some fresh coriander leaves.

Aloo Tikki -> Savory, spiced and crispy potato patties. A basic Aloo Tikki Recipe is made with potatoes, spices, herbs, breadcrumbs.

Chura mutter -> Savoury breakfast made with Poha (beaten rice), green peas, coriander leaves.

Mallaiyyo -> Is basically flavored milk foam and is served in earthen vessels of different sizes. It is garnished with fine chopped almonds & pistachios. It can also be named as the “Winter Sweet” as it is available only during the winter season. The milk foam is created only at low temperature.
